Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain disorder that causes pain and tenderness all over the body. Injury, stress, and a family history of the condition can trigger the pain.

You can use over-the-counter (OTC) medications to temporarily ease pain and discomfort. But research shows essential oils can also be used as a home remedy for stress and pain such as fibromyalgia-induced fatigue.

These essential oils may help with your fibromyalgia pain, but they must be diluted with a carrier oil when applied directly to the skin.

The spice nutmeg is commonly used to flavor food and help indigestion. It’s also known to improve cognitive function and soothe pain.

  • Aromatherapy. Aromatherapy involves aerating essential oils so you can inhale their scent. Using an oil diffuser can help with migraines, stress, anxiety, pain, and insomnia.
  • Soothing. You can combine both pain relief and aromatherapy through soothing techniques such as a hot bath. The warm water improves blood circulation, which helps with pain. Adding essential oils to the bath allows the oil to permeate the skin and block pain. The steam from the bath also creates aromatherapy.
